WRONG CASE
A GIFT FROM FRANCE
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, April 20. The Sevres vase, presented to Akaroa as a Centennial gift : by M. Lebrun, President of France, has not arrived. When a unit of the French Navy visited Akaroa a few weeks, ago it was thought that the vase was on board, and an amusing story of misunderstanding was revealed today. The case was opened in front of the Mayor, the captain of a French ship, and other dignataries. It was a dramatic moment. They forced the case, which was covered with official seals, and eagerly plunged into the packing. What they found' was a blue uniform sent out to the French Consul, M. Pouquet. It was the wrong case, and Akaroa is still without its vase.
