SHOPS TO CLOSE

When the body of the late Prime Minister is carried through the city on the first stage of its journey to Auckland tomorrow morning, citizens will be given every opportunity to pay | their last respects. Apart from 'the official parties that will follow the coffin, there will be hundreds of citizens and organised parades of returned ! soldiers, members of the National Military Reserve, and defence arms. Shop assistants will be able to take part from the roadside as shops along the route will close while the cortege passes. • - ' . The. executive of the Wellington Drapers aiii Boot Retailers' Association decided yesterday to direct all members to close their snops from 9 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. Official notice has been given that grocers' and butchers' shops along the route of the procession will be closed between 9 and 10 a.m., and those which are not on the route will be closed from 9 to 9.15 a.m. as a token of respect. Members of the Wellington Licensed Victuallers' Association -have been invited to close their premises from 9 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. The Wellington Fruit Brokers' Association has announced that all auction markets will be closed tomorrow morning. , r The motor1 trade and petrol resellers in Wellington"have decided to request their members to close their premises from 9 to 10.30 a.m. tomorrow.
