DR. R. M. CAMPBELL TO SUCCEED MR. SANDFORD

(Received March 29, 9 a.m.) LONDON, March 28. Mr. F. T. Sandford, official secretary to the New Zealand High Commissioner since 1932, is to retire on March 31. He will be succeeded by Dr. R. M. Campbell, economic adviser to the High Commissioner. : . Mr. Sandford, who has had 42 years in the civil service, arrived in London in 1922 as immigration officer. 'The staff of New Zealand House, at 7 a farewe.ll function tomorrow, will present him with a writing desk. Mr. Sandford is to remain in England. Dr. R. M. Campbell was born m 1898 and educated at Whangarei High School. He took his M.A. and LL.B. degrees at Victoria University College, where, he won the Jacob Joseph Research Scholarship in economics, and joined the staff of the Education Department. ~ln 1926 he was appointed to, ttre Prime Minister's . Department, but left for England in. 1927 and spent two yeaus at the London School of Economics where he obtained his doctorate of philosophy. He was then granted a Commonwealth Fellowship, which gave him two years in the United States. He returned to New Zealand in 1931 and was appointed Secretary to the Minister of Finance, later going back to London to take up his post as economic adviser to the High Commissioner.
