TAKING BRITISH EXPORTS

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —Your correspondent T. A. Fraser has certainly struck the right note in his letter in Thursday's issue of "The Post." Britain must increase her exports to carry on the. war. We in New Zealand can do with large quantities of her goods, but on account of the import restrictions the Government will not grant us a licence to import them. It is not a question.' of price; customers will pay any price to obtain certain lines they are literally starving for. Even a firm which has sterling funds in London is not granted a licence. By doing away with these restrictions I think the Government would make a great gesture not only to the people in the Old Country, but to thousands of tradespeople in New Zealand who are finding it very hard to make ends meet. If the Government will only be more reasonable and be fair to all classes of the community then Britain will give us all the accommodation we require to carry on.—l am, eta,

SMALL TRADER.
