On Saturday. March 30, at the Town ? Hall, the combined choral societies of ■ Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin will present "Elijah" under the , conductorship of Mr. Stanley Oliver, ♦ who will have a chorus and orchestra ~ of 400 performers under his baton., -• This Centennial presentation should be , an outstanding musical event, as it will . mark the first occasion the Dunedm. and Christchurch Choral Societies have I .collaborated to give a performance m ~ this city with the Royal Wellington. . Choral Union. A splendid cast of . principals has been engaged. They ■ are headed by Mr. Raymond Beatty. ~ of Sydney, who recently sang the baritone solos in the stage presentation of , Mendelssohn's masterpiece with the " Royal Philharmonic Society of Sydney. Miss Hilda Chudley, who has just re- ~ turned to Wellington from London after an absence of six years, has been engaged to sing the contralto solos.The soprano role will be undertaken - by Mrs. Merle Gamble, of Wellington. "" and Mr. Ernest Rogers, of Christchurch, will sustain, the tenor role. .'. The box plan opens at the D.I.C.' on ' Tuesday, March 26.
