WELLINGTON HIDE SALES
A good catalogue of hides was offered at Wellington yesterday when auction sales were resumd under the conditions of the Hides Emergency Regulations. This was the first sale held with an open market since the start of the war. As was expected there was a renewal of confidence in the exporting section of the trade; and all types met keen competition. Under existing conditions tanners are enabled to fill their wants and all interests co-operated to meet the new conditions. The range of prices which follows shows a substantial increase in the values of all grades:— , Ox: 301b to 441b, 7£d to 8 3-8 d; 451b to 521b, 8d to 8 3-8 d; 531b to 581b, 7 7-8 dto 9|d; 591b to 691b, 6 l-8d to 9 7-8 d; 701b and over, to 9-Jd. Cow: 301b to 391b, 7id to 8 5-8 d; 401b to 501b. 7d to 8 5-8 d; 511b and over, B|d to 8 3-Bd. Kip: 251b to 301b, s£d to 9£d; 171b to 241b, 7d to 10 7-8 d; 91b to 161b, 7 7-8 d
