The final of the Wellington Bowling Centre's competition for fours'to determine the champion of champions is being contested this afternoon by the Island Bay and' Lyall Bay represeiita- ' tives. yA circumstance accounting for Hutt dropping out of the semi-finals gave Lyall Bay a walk-over this morning, but the other game was closely contested and had a most' interesting finish, Island Bay defeating Hataitai by 23 points to 22. Hataitai, with Chisholm as skip, gained the first point, but Island. Bay, skipped by Lawrie, notched three on the second end and that set them on the way to a 10-4 advantage when, seven ends had been decided. A marked change was brought about when Hataitai scored five on the eighth end, .Lawrie taking out a bowl which cost his side three points. Island Bay forged ahead again, only to - find Hataitai capable of recovering. Itwas 13-12 after eleven ends, and another interesting stage was. reached when Hataitati again made up leeway to be only a point down after seventeen ends. The prospects of an exciting finish were improved by happenings on the next end, which made the score 21-all. Singles only came from the next two ends, but they were scored by Island Bay, who thus gave Hataitai the task of getting more than ' the shot itself on the last end. Island Bay were not to be denied, and, though the shot was against them on the final end, they won a stirring game.
