THE HUTT CLUB

The annual meeting of the Hutt Rubgy Football Club, presided over by Mr. R. T. Watkins, was held on Thursday Evening with an attendance of about 100 members.

The chairman congratulated the club on its annual report and balance-sheet, which called for a feeling of pride in the club and in the district. He was proud to know that so many members had enlisted and was sure they would show the same keenness to win as they had shown in their play.

The report, which was adopted, showed that the club had gained championship honours in junior (third division), fifth, and sixth grades, and had been runners-up in the third (second diyision) grade. In the club championship the. club had gained third place with 184 points. The Petone and Wellington Clubs were congratulated on their achievements and the Wellington Club on winning the senior A championship. *

Representative honours were gained by F.:Cassidy (All Black trials), E. T. Sargisson, F. Cassidy, E. Griffin,. D. F: Potter, T. M, Flanagan, A. T. Foley, and G. Burton (Wellington A and B senior representatives), R. A. Marsden (junior representatives), and E. Shute (third representatives).

It was/decided to open the gymnasium on March 18.

An invitation to send a junior team to Levin was provisionally accepted, arrangements being left in the hands of Mr. J. Smith.

The following officers were elected. President, Sir Alexander Roberts, K.B.E. vice-presidents, same as last year, with the addition of Messrs. W. D. Burton, L. Hunt, S. Ogilvie, C. Newman, C Griffen, Sergeant J. W. McHolm, and Mr. Savage; club captain, Mr. C. H. Slater; assistant club captain, Mr. H. R. Baker; hOn. secretary, Mr. C. W Dudding; hori. assistant secretary, Mr. F. Feeney; hon, treasurer, Mr. H. K. Skilton; management committee, Messrs. J-. Davidson, R. J-. Feeney, J. Faulls, J. Flanagan, J. F. Holland, H. E. Mcßain, E. B. Monigatti, G P. Roberts, and H. Eighteen new members were elected. The following were recommended for the positions of coaches: Messrs. N R. Baker, E.. J. Beagle, E. C. Clouston, E. Cropp, J. Davidson, R. H. McKay, H. R. Parsonage, R. Potts, F. M. Ryan, and J. Faulls.

Delegates to the Wellington union meeting were instructed to move for the abolition of the present method of selecting the teams for the first and second divisions. It was pointed out by Mr. C. Slater and other members that a team once it was placed in the second diyision was given no further opportunity of regaining first division status and this had a detrimental effect on the morale of the team.

It was resolved that all members who had enlisted should retain their membership for the duration of the war and that payment of their fees be waived.

Arrangements were made to run the race for the Skilton Cup on the evening of March 28.
