MAORI WEDDING
NGATA—METE-KINGI
The marriage was solemnised last Saturday evening at the Putiki Memorial Church of Henare, youngest son of Sir Apirana Ngata and the late Lady Ngata, of East Coast, and Lorna, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. MeteKingi, of Wanganui, states "The Post's" correspondent. The service was fully choral, with Miss June Campion at the organ. ' The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a trained gown of ivory embossed georgette over laffeta, with" embroidered tulle /eil, and she carried a shower bouquet of cream roses.
Misses Rakera and Kaharangi, sisters of the bride, were bridesmaids. They were wearing embroidered primrose taffeta organdie over taffeta with top knots of primrose and hydrangea blue. A small niece, Hera Mete-Kingi, was flower-girl and was frocked in hydrangea blue sprigged organdie, and wore a poke bonnet.
Messrs. W. Parker^. W.ellington, and G. Ngata (nephew) attended the bridegroom. Men from the Maori Battalion at Palmerston North formed a guard of honour from the church.
Several hundred guests were entertained in the big hall at Putiki Pa at supper and a dance. Haka, poi, an,d many speeches were features of the party. - : ' : *
Sergeant-Major and Mrs. Ngata left later for New Plymouth and Auckland. ■'~
