UNUSUAL VERDICT
AWARD OF DAMAGES
An unusual verdict was'returned in a motor collision case heard/before Mr. Justice Smith and a jury of twelve in the Supreme Court yesterday. The claim was one for £531 special and general damages, brought by Ernest John Bentley (Mr. G. C. Kent) against Archibald Lawrence Lamb, shop assistant, as the result of the defendant backing his motor-car into the motor-cycle ridden by the plaintiff. The jury retired at 3.45 yesterday afternoon and returned at 5.22 with a verdict for the plaintiff, awarding him full special damages, but no general damages. The Judge pointed out that some damages would have to be awarded, and the jury finally returned at 5.30 with a verdict of £50 general and full special damages, a total of £233 19s 2d.
