ROTORUA MEETING

COURSE NOW LEFT-HANDED

(Special from "Early Bird.")

AUCKLAND, This Day.

Patrons of the Rotorua Racing Club's Annual Meeting tomorrow and on Monday will see a reformed track and appointments, for the club has now completed a big scheme of improvements, including new stands and a change-over from right-handed to lefthanded I'acing. In keeping with the occasion the fields for the opening day are very satisfactory and the meeting should be successful despite the petrol restrictions. The track is reported to be in excellent order. Win-and-place betting will operate. BIG CUP FIELD. An increase in prtee-money had the desired effect in the Rotorua Cup, for the field is the best ever secured. Fifteen remain in, with the consistent if unlucky King Rey heading the list. Lady Montana should be capable of a solid effort if she reproduces her besfe southern form, and of Jack Tar it can be said that he is returning to form. Namara is always a prospect, and Te Hai on form ought to turn the tables on King Rey at least, for he comes in better by 91b, on their Matamata weights. The Cardinal has not been produced lately, but he is all right. Brazilian, Kena, Saccone, and Scotland will not lack friends, but it would seem as if the key to the contest is held by the three-year-olds Cornish and Greek Queen, for it must not be forgotten that horses of this age are carrying everything before them nowadays. Erlick won brilliantly at Matamata and he should again produce a fine effort. A useful field is engaged in the sprint, the Tourist Handicap, and the three-year-old filly Konneta should be improved by her Matamata outing. Valimeen and Gamos may be the most difficult to beat.
