MR. EDEN'S REPLY TO MR. SAVAGE
(Received February 7, 1.45 p.m.)
LONDON, February 6.
It was New Zealand's day in Loridon today, the celebration of the Centenary running through a. dignified sequence, which began with the broadcasts by the New Zealand High Commissioner, Mr. W. J. Jordan; the Dominions Secretary, Mr. Anthony Eden; and Lord Bledisloe. Then came a service at the Church of St. Lawrence
Jewry
The crown of the day's events was the reception at the Mansion House, at which the presence of their Majesties was a charming compliment to New Zealand.
""After the departure of their Majesties Mr. Jordan read the Prime Minister's (Mr. M..J. Savage) message of gratitude to the Lord Mayor, to which the Lord Mayor replied. The ceremony was as happy for London as for New Zealand.
Finally Mr. Eden broadcast a reply to Mr. Savage, in which he said: "When we look back on a 100 years of the Dominion's history we see plainly from New Zealand's experience that without freedom there cannot be an enduring peace for nations and individuals. That is why at the outbreak of the war there was no doubt in the mind of the New Zealand people."
