DEMOCRATS FAVOUR MR. ROOSEVELT
COUNTRY NOT "GOING BUST"
NEW YORK, February 6,
A canvass of Democratic national committeemen reveals that 90 per cent, favour Mr. Roosevelt for a third term as President. The cpmn->-''tee has selected Chicago,- the sc if Mr. Roosevelt's nomination in or the 1940 national convention i_ . party.
Mr. Roosevelt at a Press conference dared his critics to prove their charges that the United States is "going bust." He said that while t&e total indebtedness of the Federal, State, and local governments had not increased since 1932, the national income had increased from 40,089 million dollars to over 70,000 million. When it hit 80,000 million, as he was confident it would, the Budget could be more than balanced.
He added that since 1932 there had been a 71 per cent, increase in the national income, 62 per cent, in salaries, 145 per cent, in the factory workers' weekly pay-rolls, 55 per cent, in dividends, 82 per cent, in farm incomes, and 97 per cent, in commodity exports.
