RED CROSS ACTIVITY
Help for Finnish children was sought in a recent cable received from the League of Red Cross, Geneva, by the New Zealand Red Cross, and the Dpminion executive has decided to forward the appeal to Junior Red Cross members.
A Dominion conference to Red Cross delegates will be held early in March. At a meeting of the special wartime committee of the joint council of the Order of St. John and the New Zealand Red Cross; Society it was agreed that contact should be established with the New Zealand War Services Association, London, as suggested by Dr. Bernard Myers, Red Cross Commissioner and the closest co-opera-tion between the activities of the Red Cross and that body should be maintained. ■•'•■.
The launching.of a special joint appeal in aid of funds for the sick, wounded, and distressed was, discussed and authority was awaited from the National Patriotic Fund Board fixing an opportune time which would not clash, with other branches of the patriotic organisation. In connection with the launching of the appeal, it was unanimously agreed that her Excellency Lady Galway .should be invited to fill the position of patroness. Sub-committees were set up to supervise the purchase of materials and to evolve a plan for a public appeal. The following amounts donated arei to form a nucleus of the joint appeal:— Mrs. T. H. Lowry, £500; Lady Myers, £100; the National Patriotic Fund Board, £500; Mokogai Lepers, £100; Martinborough Red Cross, £5; Niue Islanders, £80 5s 6d; Mr. and Mrs. L. O. H. Tripp, £200; Mrs. Elgar, £100; t0ta1,.£1585 5s 6d.
