HORQWHENUA SHOW
(Special to the "Evening Post")
LEVIN, This Day,
Torrential rain which fell during the night and until shortly before nopn yesterday affected the attendance at the Horowhenua .Show. There was bright sunshine in the afternoon, however, and those present had little to complain of for the remainder of the day.
The entries were well up to the average of previous years, and keen competition ensued.
As is usual in the cattle classes Jerseys predominated and, according to the judge, Mr. T. Ranford, Whakaronga, they were a credit to the district. In the class for Ayrshires, the judge, Mr. J. G. Donald, Featherston, expressed the opinion that the champion bull would hold its own at any show in New Zealand. The Milking Shorthorns were very representative of the breed, while the Friesians realised expectations. The sheep sections were well filled, and the judges in the various classes paid tributes to the high quality of the stock. The entries in the pig section were not up to expectations. The judge, Mr. H. E. Fieldhouse, Rongotea remarked that the baconers as a class were outstanding.
An interesting feature of the afternoon's display was the dog trials. The event was vjon by Mr. R. Fortune's Ben Lomond, with Mr. H. Harris's Dick second.
