WEA LTH OF TALENT TO PARADE

+ The maiden classes can always be relied u#on. to attract, a Jte*: of attention at metropolitan meetings* and tibLe.Welliagjtoa.TroE^iJg/ Club's Centennial Meeting, which opens at Hutt Park on- Wedi*es«]tajf* next? should? prove'no exception; for it.is-jEr.om this departmentthat embryo champions emanate* As an instance of this* it^naayjoa , pointed out that Lucky Jack won his first, race at Kutfr Park-ahd' fia»v since developed into, a dual New/ Zealand Trotting Cup. wnrne*< :: . 1 The Hutt Park course has previously been the venue of some • stirring struggles, but it is doubtful if a. field with more potentialities has ever paraded at a Wellington Meeting; The? decided progress in breeding bas. resulted in a definite- upward trend .in?, the light-harness sport throughout the Dominion, and it is noticeable that today any winner qJT a novice event is bred on the latest fashionable lines.. No fewer than 12 literally unknown maiden pacers have beea1 entered for the Wellington Meeting, and who knows but that another Indianapolis will be seen in action? The day of the breaking uneducated, novice- is- pas t y and there are few pacers racing nowadays that cannot be relied upon to do their work correctly from barrier rise.

The Tinwald owner-trainer. B. Griee has previously found Hutt Park a happy hunting ground, and it is. interesting to note that he has two horses in Haughty and Hardy Oak. engaged1 on this occasion. Haughty is. an. unraced bay mare by Nelson Derby from Regal Voyage (.4.19 4-5), a. daughter'o£ HappyVoyage and Logan Princess (2.15 3-5) r who also produced the promising Auckland pacer Belfast Jack to Jack Potts.

Hardy Oak, who. will also be making his debut, is a black gelding fullbrother to Single Star, by Nelson Derby from. Queen's Treasure, by Rey de Oro. Both Single Star and Hardy Oak are the first products of Queen's Treasure, and it is."a pity her blood lines cannot be traced any further.

M. C. McTigue has an unraeed: novice in Crown King, a chestnut four-year-old full-brother to Pine Art* by Jack Potts from Golden Bond (2.1T 4-5), by Worthy Bond from a Petereta mare. McTigue has won several races at Hutt Park, and there is no reason to doubt that Prown King .has showa him .something to warrant the trip from' Methven to Wellington. Jarrah, owned by Mr. D. Clark and trained by G. Cameron at New Brighton,' has appeared on only one occasion,, finishing fourth in 3min 29sec, at Ashburton on Boxing Day. He is an aged gelding by Nelson Derby from Adelaide Wood, by Fairlight from. , Lady Windermere, a daughter of Waodchilfl. Lady Denise, owned and trained by D. McKendry, who has Nelson Eddy* is an aged mare by Wrack, from an El Carbine mare, but further than that her breeding cannot be traced- However, McKendry is recognised as one of the most astute mentors following this calling, and evidently Lady Denise is a very promising sort. Sunny Corner, who carries the colours of Mr. H. Gardiner and is trained by FG. Holmes, has not raced. She is a four-year-old half-sister to the trotter Sylvan, being by Travis, Axworthy from Glade, a daughter of Logan Pointer from. Merce, by Galindo from Authoress (dam of Author Dillon, 4.21 4-5), the line tracing-back to the famous taproot founded by Thelma. Toceetie, owned by Mr. W. S. Bennett and trained by E. Scholefield, has yet to make her debut, but she is well enough bred to be a champion. She is a six-year-old by Grattan, Loyal from Cyene (4,272), by Logan Pointer from Mavis Bingen, a daughter "of Huia Dili lon. and Bell Bingen, from Bertha Bell, who has produced high-class pacers m Great Bingen, Peter Bingen, Great Parrish, etc. Fly On is trained at Ashhurst by W» Orange, and is a three-year-old bay gelding by the Australian-bred horse Auto Machine from Norah Creina, who won the Auckland Trotting .Cup i» 1919. She is a daughter of Rothschild and Noreen, whd does not figure; in the Stud Book.

Shannon Lass Is by Man-g-War from Doraz, and William Potts is a six-year-old son of Jack Potts and Lady Bountiful, by Logan Pointer from the Rothschild mare Dollar Princess, who produced Recess (3.19 1-5), Doradina (dam of Daphne de Oro)* Houdini
