HUTT VALLEY

PLAY LAST SATURDAY

The position of teams in ! the Hutt Valley Cricket Association's A 'grade competition after last Saturday's play { is as follows:— , CHAMPIONSHIP TABLE. 4-pt. 2-pt. wins.. wins. D. I;. Fts. Eastbourno .... 3 4 ■ •— 3 20 Trafalgar Park .1 7 —- 2 18 Bell Park 1 6 — 3 ]G. Empire — 6 — 4 12 Moera Stop Out . — 6 — 4 12 Gear United .... 1 3 — 6 10 Upper Hutt .... 1 1 — 8 6 Halvlc ...•— — — 10 — A feature of last Saturday's A gcade matches was the defeat of Trafalgar iPark by Moera Stop Out. Top scorer •of the day was R. Douglas (Empire), ;with 57 retired, and Les Foley again look the bowling honours, his bag being eight for 30. In scoring 41 for Moera Stop Out against Trafalgar Park J. Dunn showed a pleasing return to the form that gained him representative honours a couple of seasons ago. Les Foley was in brilliant form with the ball, and more than one Gear United batsman will testify that some of his deliveries were practically unplayable. Eight for 30, bowling unchanged, is certainly a good performance.

At one stage of the Empire v. Upper, K'itt match, Upper Hutt looked like going cheaply, with five down for 17, but McCarthy and Skilton stopped the procession. Then came Andrews, who hit hard to register a very acceptable 45. McCarthy took the eye as a promising type, his fielding being also excellent.

C. Williams continues to gather in the runs for Halvic. His 52 last week, Scored very freely, produced many fine shots through;the covers that gave the fieldsmen plenty of leather hunting.

■ After passing Upper Hutt's. score of 137, Empire scored very fast. Ray Douglas (without pads), making hard and clean shots all round the wicket, rattled on 57 before Skipper A. T. Wood gave the nod to retire. Jim Scott also retired with 25.

Fenton, representative wicketkeeper, was in fine form with the bat, his 49 including several flashing shots past cover. Feriton also kept wickets well.

No bowler in the association has shown greater improvement as the season has progressed than Con O'Halloran (Moera).
