METHODIST CENTENNIAL
Tomorrow has been set aside as the day on which \Methodism should commemorate its centenary, and this was fixed as being the nearest Sunday to January 26, it being 100 years on that day since the Rev. James Buller, Methodist missionary, preached to the settlers who had arrived* in Port Nicholson on the Aurora. At 7 p.m. tomorrow a special commemoration service will be held in Wesley Church, Taranaki Street, conducted by the Rev. Percy Paris, chairman of the district.
As the first service with the immigrants was held irf the. Aurora, shipping interests have been invited to the service, as well as civic and Harbour Board authorities. - It is expected that a number of descendants of the Aurora passengers will be present, and house flags of the various shipping companies will be hung in the church. Special music will be rendered by the Wesley choirs, under Mr. H. Temple White, and a motet by Vaughan Williams, "Lord Thou Hast Been Our Refuge," will be sung for the first time in Wellington.
A commemorative service will be held at Petone at 3 p.m.; and particulars are given on page 9.
