FULL ADDRESSES

MAIL FOR SOLDIERS

ENSURING PROMPT DELIVERY

, The necessity for addressing all classes of mail matter intended for soldiers correctly and fully to ensure prompt delivery was emphasised by the Minister of Defence (the Hon. F. Jones) last night.

The Minister said he appreciated that there was difficulty in correctly addressing correspondence when a soldier first went into camp, but as. a very necessary aid to prompt delivery he asked for the co-operation of the public in ensuring that, as soon as possible, the soldier was fully addressed by number, rank, and unit at the camp concerned. The request applied equally to telegrams, letters, parcels, and other correspondence. Delay in delivery was likely if the full address of the 'soldier was not used. ■'.'■■

The . public, said' Mr. Jones, were previously requested to address care of the General Post Office, Wellington, correspondence for New Zealand soldiers serving overseas with the Expeditionary Force. It was how considered that the addition to the military., address of the soldier .of the words "N.Z.E.F. Overseas" would better serve to indicate that the soldier was actually overseas with the Expeditionary Force. As an example of correct addressing for letters, parcels, etc., the Minister1; gave the'following:-1--

562 Private J:~Brswn, ' ", ■ B Company, 19th (Wellington) Rifle Battalion, N.Z.E.F. Overseas.

The Minister emphasised that this "Overseas" address i should be used only for members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force who had proceeded overseas. Some people, he said, were addressing Expeditionary Force correspondence care of Army Headquarters, Wellington, and care of Army Base Records, Wellington. The use of such addresses was confusing, and caused delay to correspondence.
