N.S.W SCORCHED
HEAT AND BUSH FIRES
(Received January 26,, 1,0 a.m.)
SYDNEY, This Day.
New South Wales is at present gripped by a heat-wave, back-country centres recording temperatures up to 114 degrees. Sydney reached 106.3 degrees yesterday afternoon, the highest temperature since January 14 last year, when it topped 113. Bush fires have been raging all the week.
A fireman was killed and seven men injured yesterday when an engine dashing to a-fire overturned, pinning the crew beneath it. Many homes have been menaced, but have been saved, either by the efforts of fire-fighters or by a fortunate change of wind.
