MAYOR OF PETONE
ENLISTMENT FOR OVERSEAS
Mr. G. LondoA, Mayor of Fetone, has enlisted, with the Special Force for service overseas, and last evening, at a meeting of the Wellington Harbour Board, of which he is a member, he received congratulations on his action. The chairman, Mr.* M. A. Eliott, said Mr. London had been a member of the board since May, 1938. He understood he had been born at Lower Hutt, and was thirty-four years of age. He was the youngest member of the board, and ,'the only member who had ever enlisted for service overseas. He was one of the youngest Mayors in New Zealand —if not the youngest—and he (Mr. Eliott) thought he was the only bachelor Mayor. His seat on the board was waiting for him when he returned.
