YACHTING
REGATTA EVENTS
MORE WIND AND SOME CAPSIZES
Sailing conditions,on the harbour today for the concluding'events of the Anniversary Day yachting regatta, which is. also a Centennial event, were more difficult than on Saturday. The north-westerly breeze was stronger and gustier and many boats carried ah extra man for greater stability. There were a, few qapsizes, but the great majority of the competing yachts were equal to the .demands and found the going fast and at times exciting.
Among the boats, which capsized were two eighteeri-footers, the Jeanette, of Auckland,:and the Marlene, of Lyttelton. ' . Because of the wind the race for Silver Fern and "Q" boats (13ft 6in. and under), which was to have been sailed from the Clyde Quay Wharf, was transferred to Evans Bay, but as on Saturday all the other sailing'events began and finished off Clyde Quay Wharf. r Officials of the Wellington Citizens Anniversary Regatta Committee dispatched the. various classes on their racing courses with the same'promptness shown ■in the conduct of ; the first day""bf the. regatta. , -The high light'of the regatta,,from the public point of view, was the allcomers' sailing race" which was the only event on the programme after lunch and the concluding race of the regatta. It was! open to any sailing boat and the course lay across the harbour to Petone, where other Centennial celebrations were held today. The start of this race was timed for 2.30 p.m. , Revised placings in the Takapuna handicap jailed on Saturday afternoon are as follows:—Valeta, Manakau (6 mm), 2h 0m 18s, 1; Swallow, Wellington (lOmin), 2h 5m os, 2; Marie, Paremata (smin), 2h 0m 545, 3. Nearly* a dozen launches had'a busy time attending.' to the capsized yachts, arid there was no launch race.
