Although turnovers at Trentham during the past twelve months have been steadily climbing towards record figures the officials of the Wellington Racing Club, basing their estimate on the » Christmas and New Year investments, were not sanguine, prior to the Centennial Summer Meeting, that a new top mark would be reached during the currency of the fixture. However, Saturday's turnover of £102,803 10s passed the previous"": best return, made on the second day in 1921, when Anniversary Day and the Saturday . fell together, by £20 10s. That day in 1921 was the occasion on which Gloaming ran the fouj furlongs of the Kelburn Plate in time Higt remains an Australian and New Zealand record for that distance... • • • "•■' Saturday-was the most successful day's racing ever held on the Trentham course. No detailed particulars are available as to the. numerical strength of the attendance, but it was without much doubt the largest crowd that has yet assembled on the course.
