COUGHLIN AND "CHRISTIAN
FRONT"
(Received January 20, 10.45 a.m.)
WASHINGTON, January 19
The Justice Department is asking the New York District Attorney to investigate the connection of Father Coughlin (the "Radio Priest") with the "Christian Front." The decision follows a request by sixteen educators and clergymen.
A message from New York published on January 16 stated:—The leader, John F. Cassidy, and other members of the "Christian Front" often called Father Coughlin "our leader," and they "committed the 'Christian Front' to the support of the principles of social justice" which Father Coughlin enunciated. Father Coughlin declined to recognise any official connection, and now he declares that he frequently condemned the Christian Front. The use of his name was unauthorised.
