GEN. HERTZOG'S MOTION
AFRICAN PARLIAMENT MEETS
NEW COMPLEXION
(By Telegraph—'Press Association — Copyright.) (Received January 20, 1.15 p.m.) CAPE TOWN, January 19. When Parliament resumed today the former Premier, General Hertzog, gave notice to move the following motion on January 23: "This House considers the time has come to end the war against Germany and restore peace." A Parliament with an entirely new complexion met with the galleries crowded. The supporters of the Premier, General Smuts, include eight members of the Dominion Party, four Labour, and three native .representatives. They number 84, while the Opposition numbers 67. General Smuts, with a clear majority of 17, will proceed with the war measures which, in the terms of the Governor's Speech, will not impede constructive development of the country's resources or the continued improvement in the life of the people.
