New Zealand will be the only country in the world to hold a eucharistic congress in 1940, and great interest is being shown by the Catholic Church authorities of other lands in this event. In addition to greetings from prominent dignitaries in England, the U.S.A., and on the Continent, the congress promoters are to be honoured by two notable broadcasts. His Holiness Pope Pius XII will; I broadcast a special message from the! Vatican City at 9 p.m. on Thursday, February 1,, the evening of the great men's rally, and on the following evening, Friday, his Eminence Cardinal Hinsley of Westminster, will broadcast through Daventry at 8.40, New Zealand time, and will be relayed by the N,ew Zealand National Broadcasting Service. Had war not interfered with the congress arrangements, Cardinal Hinsley would have been sent to New Zealand as Papal Legate, but on account of the unsettled state of world affairs, Archbishop Panico, Apostolic Delegate to Australia and New Zealand, has been made Papal Legate jn his stead. The Congress authorities have produced a highly attractive brochure to mark the event. With decorative cover design, well illustrated and printed, this book outlines the programme of events I and contains also a large amount of interesting reading of a general nature. A historical survey is given of each of the four diocese, and other articles deal with the origin and history of Euchavistic Congresses generally, with special reference to the Wellington festival. A well-written treatise deals with the Vatican and the place it holds in the world today, and other matter ia devoted to sidelights of church affairs and personalities in this counitw- ,
