FOR THE TROOPS

ELDERLY LADY'S GIFT

In addition to monetary . contributions, goods and also some gifts for disposal by auction or in some other way to assist in the raising of funds have been received by .the National Patriotic, Fund Board.

Yesterday an elderly lady, Mrs. S. W. Dentice, of Seatoun, brought into the board's office seven beautifullyworked aprons with the1 request that they should be used to raise money to buy comforts for New Zealand troops. They are not the ordinary type oi working apron, but aprons which have been elaborately and effectively handworked and which are really in the art class. Most of them have a Maori design, but there is one on which has been worked the figure of a girl wearing a red poke bonnet and a crinoline in a delicate blue toning, most artistically executed. So effective is it that it would be worthy of a place in any dining-room decoration scheme.

Those who have seen the work declare that it must have taken many months to do, and the spirit which prompted Mrs Dentice to present the aprons to the board is greatly admired. They will be disposed of in such a way as to benefit the national fund as much as possible. It was stated today that it is likely that they will be sold by auction when the community singinf, recruiting rallies are resumed.

This afternoon the National Patriotic Fund Board acknowledged the receipt of a cheque for £117 12s 6d, the proceeds of a Sunday evening concert at Wellington. The cheque was forwarded by the Air Force relations committee of the board, which is the national collecting and expending agent. on behalf of the Air Force.
