WEST OF THE SAAR

A French war communique* reports a fairly strong artillery action west of the Saar, and that otherwise the night was quiet. '

A-German war communique states, that nothing unusual occurred on the Western Front. The air force reconnoitred the Scottish coast. \ | The Air Ministry states that there is [no truth- in the latter part of the report. (Daventry Broadcast.) LONDON, Thursday Night On the Western Front there; has been patrol activity by both sides in spite of the cold weather. Tonight's French communique reports that in the Vosges one outpost repulsed an attack made by a German detachment and took some prisoners. There was an artillery bombardment for four hours. A German plane is said to have made a long distance reconnaissance flight in north-eastern France.
