ONE RECORD BROKEN
Competition was keen at the Hutt Valley Amateur Swimming Club's carM val at Riddiford Baths last evening. There were over 1500 spectators. The enforcement of the new rule regarding the breaking of stated times caused many disqualifications in the handicap freestyle e!vents, '. " i .
R. Hatch well, the New Zealand and Wellington title-holder, won the men's 100 yards district championship comfortably from E. Raven, the only other starter Owing to an accident, L. Somervell was unable to compete! Miss S. Gotlieb, ex-Dominion title-holder, won the women's sprint championship in the district record time of 66 seconds. §he was over 10 yards ahead of, the defender, Miss W. Pritchard. The 440 yards title race was a close struggle between F. Pennington, the holder, and J. Clark, Dominion surf j title-holder, who swam almost stroke for stroke throughout. Clark went ahead at \ about 325 yards, and at the last turn led by a yard. He won by a length. Tuppen lost his diving title to F. Greenham, who gained many points in the compulsory dives.
