Reports reaching Sydney tell of extensive damage by floods and cyclones in'the Northern Territory. The Roper Biver Mission Station was destroyed and the mission lugger lost. Numerous small .settlements were flooded, and groups of settlers, who have taken refuge on isolated high ground, may sobri be desperately short of food. Some residents, fleeing for their lives before flood waters, had also to face the hazards of gales and crocodiles. • The • crocodiles left the rivers with the floodwaters and thrashed round smajl boats, in which settlers were escaping and dragged down stock which they were trying to save.
