In the elimination stages of the , singlek at Thorndon, Rolls (Featherston) defeated Whittaker (Onehunga) by 22-Jls. The Featherston skip, whose steady; play in the earlier singles games aroused (keen interest, and admiration, was again in top form, and on a good green proved too hot for his opponent. For the part :6f the game the ' contestants were fairly evenly matched. Whittaker got.away.with 5 on the first three | ends,-;and Rolls replied with a " three and. a'single, conceding another five to Whittaker on the sixtH and

A, I?eare,r(Carlt6n) defeated J. R. Smith iCKelburn), 21-9. The game was by no means one-sided. Smith played excellent bowls, but Deare was -right on his 'game and his draw shots were super;; Time after time he played with devastating accuracy, taking shot with his final bowl when Smith had a chance of snatching two or three on an end.
