TRICKY CONDITiONS
Conditions were again tricky at the Hutt Valley Gun Club's grounds today, when the 1940 New Zealand double rise clay target! championship was decided. The fresh northerly breeze, coming from behind the targets, caused them to fly quickly without much rise, .and this was further ■ complicated by the increased difficulty of'a double ehpt. . No possibles were scored, and only two competitors broke more than 16 "birds." ;.H. Grennell, of Port Levy, was' first .with 18 targets of the 20 shot at. .Ho.received an order for a trophy valued at •S6 15s, and £13 lbs of the' prizes-money: R: Oates, of Tokomaru Bay, who ivas second with a score of 17, received a trophy order for £3 ,7s and £6 IDs in cash. Messrs. Malcolm, Dobson, and Hough, who tied on the 16 mark, received £2 5s each. . • . . ■ ~ The match was ono of 10 pairs, from 16 yards rise.
