VARYING REPORTS
RUSSIAN ATTACK
PARTICULARLY VIOLENT
FIGHTING

LONDON, Tuesday Night.
Although there is practically no direct news from Helsinki or Moscow of the fighting in Finland, it is apparent that the Russians are pressing a large-scale attack in an effort to drive a wedge across central Finland.
Reports from Rome, where the fighting is being watched closely, state that the Russian attack has now been extended to the whole eastern frontier and that fighting has become particularly violent during the past twentyfour hours.
The Finnish Legation in London, which is in communication with Helsinki by wireless telephone, says that Finnish troops destroyed four Russian companies, each of 200 men. and strong Soviet detachments were hurled bad;
On the other hand; a 'correspondc: of a Stockholm newspaper telegraph: from the eastern frontier that Russiai: troops are advancing' rapidly and that the roads are crowded with refugees.
