Light to moderate northerly winds.
Weather fine and mild.
The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today for the ensuing twenty-four hours, is for fresh but decreasing south-westerly winds in the Auckland Province, Elsewhex'e winds will be light to moderate and variable, witn northerly directions gradually predominating about and south of Cook Strait. There may be a few showers at first in the Poverty Bay area and scattered morning drizzle in the South Island, but the weather generally will be fair to fine and mild. It will become unsettled later, however, in the far south and- west.
The cyclone responsible for the recent bad weather has continued to move eastward away from the Dominion. Southerly or south-westerly winds have prevailed in districts north of Christchurch and Greymouth and have been fresh to strong generally, gale force being reached in many places. Over the remainder of the South Island moderate northerlies have predominated.- In eastern districts from Canterbury northward the weather has been dull and unsettled with further rain, and showers have also continued in Southland and Otago. Falls, however, have been only light, Puysegur Point with 18 points being the heaviest. Cape Palliser, Napier, and East Cape each had 15 points of rain yesterday. Elsewhere the weather has been fair to fine with cool to moderate temperatures. Southerly winds were still predominating this morning in the North Island, while elsewhere winds were rather variable in direction and moderate in force. Scattered showers are still falling between East Cape and the Bay of Plenty, but the weather otherwise is fair to cloudy.
Auckland had a fresh to strong south-westerly wind yesterday, the maximum gust having a velocity of 57 miles an hour. The morning was overcast with intermittent light rain, but it cleared somewhat in the afternoon. Temperatures were moderate, 66.6 degrees being the maximum and 58 degrees the minimum. The weather this morning was cloudy and the southwesterly wind was still fresh. Wellington had a dull day, with intermittent rain in the morning which totalled 11 points. The fresh southerly wind decreased during the afternoon. Temperatures were mild, the maximum being 63.3 degrees and the minimum 52.1 degrees. The weather today was fine, with passing cloud and intermittent sunshine and with a lighi northerly wind, . In Christchurch it was overcast early, but it cleared during the morning and there were intervals of sunshine throughout the day. A moderate south-westerly wind prevailed at first, but about, noon the wind changed to a northeasterly. Temperatures were mild, ranging between 67.2 and 53.6 degrees as the maximum and minimum. This morning's' weather was dull with intermittent drizzle, the wind being a light north-easterly. Dunedin had a moderate north-east-erly breeze yesterday with fine and sunny weather. Today, however, was overcast, the wind having changed to the south.
