INQUIRIES BY RATEPAYERS

The chairman of the executive of the Wellington Ratepayers' Association; Mr. H. H. Miller', stated today that the association : had: received several communications from commercial firms who paid, heavy sums in rates asking what action the association was taking relative to the report that the City Council was about to impose new restrictions on the collection of trade refuse.

Upon inquiry being made of the City Engineer, it was ascertained that no new policy had been decided on, but Mr. Luke drew attention to the fact that in many cases the system was being abused.

The association had been assured, stated Mr. Miller, that the system which had been in operation for many years was not to be. interfered; with, and that owners of large office .■buildings and commercial firms could rest assured that the daily refuse would be collected as usual.
