MR. K. H. TUCKER
Widespread regret will be felt at the death of Mr. Kinder Houghton Tucker, which occurred in Wellington this morning. In business in Wellington for many years as an engraver, Ken. Tucker, as he was popularly known, was highly respected by all who had dealings with him, and his standing: as a sportsman was of the highest. He was one of New Zealand's cricket stalwarts, one of the greatest players this country has produced, and one who, fully appreciative of all that cricket meant, was ever-ready to improve the lot of other cricekters.
For over 30 years he played in senior cricket in Wellington, and to that record he added another in the number of
runs he scored- —well over 11,000. An all-rounder of outstanding ability, he represented Wellington many times and he first appeared as . a New Zealand representative (v. Melbourne CO .in 1899-1900. He played again for NewZealand against Lord Hawke's English team in 1902-03, and the M.C.C.. team which came, over here in 1906-07, as well as against W. W, Armstrong's Melbourne team in 1905-06. In club cricket he played mostly for Midland, with which club he started his distinguished senior career in 1896. Great as a player, he also did conspicuously good work as an official, notably as a selector, in which capacity he acted for Wellington and for New Zealand. In his young days he was also a keen footballer, playing for the Athletic Club. He represented Wellington in 1897.
The late Mr. Tucker, who was 64 year of age, is survived by his wife and a daughter (Mrs. R. Marsden. ojf Napier), for whom much sympathy will be felt by a wide circle of friends.
