LYRIC GROUP

EASTBOURNE CONCERT

The Eastbourne Lyric Group, under the conductorship of Mr. T. Watson, gave a concert in aid of the Eastbourne branch of the Red Cross Society recently. The Lyric Group represents musical life in Eastbourne, and it has gathered the best local talent available. That this talent is exceptional has been emphasised by those well Qualified to express an opinion. In this group of mixed voices a true balance is well maintained and the tonal quality is excellent. While it aims at a high standard artistically, the programmes are well within the capacity of the group to perform and this programme was no exception. The group is fortunate in its accompanist (Mrs. G. R. Gair), who, in addition to accompanying all the items, contributed two most enjoyable piano solos.

At the invitation of the Mayoress, Mrs. E. W. Wise, who is president of the Eastbourne branch of the Red Cross Society, Captain M. S. Galloway spoke of the work of the Red Cross and urged that wholehearted support should be given to the newly-estab-lished branch at Eastbourne. After the concert Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Lenihan entertained the performers at a delightful supper party, during which Signor Cesaroni, , patron of the group, congratulated it on its work and the excellence of its performance, and paid a special tribute to Mrs. Gair, the accompanist. Complimentary references were also made to the conductor, Mr. T. Watson, and the, secretary of the group, Miss M. Wood.
