PHYSICAL WELFARE

Expressing the opinion that the outbreak of war had widened the field of helpfulness for the organisation of physical welfare and recreation work, the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry) said yesterday that there would be no cessation of activities for Natiqnal Recreation Week, September 29 to October 7. A mistaken impression, he said, existed in some quarters that members of district committees appointed under the Physical Welfare and Recreation Act might be distracted by the war and lose interest in Recreation Week. He was pleased to read in reports from a number of localities that there were many men and women who showed great keenness in doing their best for a movement beneficial to people of all acfgc "The idea to keep fit and well, specially at this time," said Mr. Parry, "is in line with one of our most important activities. An important aspect of Recreation Week is in demonstrations of suitable forms of exercise and recreation, outdoors and indoors, of which the organisation will help greatly in imparting knowledge. In the same way exhibitions of hobbies will be helpful.
