SCHARNHORST AT KOBE
FITTING AS RAIDER

RUGBY, September 19. A bulletin issued by the Ministry of Information sayiff the Japanese newspaper "Hochi Shirribun" is cited as stating that the German liner Scharnhorst is now at Kobe being converted into an armed raider.
The Ministry of Information announces that the British Naval Attache in Tokio lias been informed by the Japanese naval authorities that the arming of German ships in Japanese ports will not be permitted, .as this would be an infringement of Japanese neutrality.
The Scharnhorst (18,184 tons) was built at Bremen for the North German Lloyd Company in 1935.
