MARRIAGE OF MAORIS
Various claims and disputes in respect of Native lands are adjusted in the Native Purposes 3ill, which was introduced in the House of Representatives last night cmd referred to the Native Affairs Committee. The Bill, which consists largely of clauses of a miscellaneous nature, extends the jurisdiction of the Native Land Court in dealing with, certain questions affecting the Native race.
One clause authorises the issue oi regulations providing that notice should be given of the intended marriage between Natives proposing *o marry in the presence of an officiating minister under the Marriage Act. The regulations may also provide for the issue of a marriage certificate in accordance with the notice, and that no marriage shall be celebrated by an i fnciating Minister until such certificate is issued.
