ILLEGAL ENTRY
IMMIGRANT'S DIFFICULTIES
Stated by counsel to have been a member of the crew of a steamer which was torpedoed off the coast of Spain, and to have been a prisoner of war there for several months before his arrival in New Zealand, Vassilios Tripanagnostopoulos appeared before Mr. J. G. L. Hewitt, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court today and pleaded guilty to entering New Zealand at New Plymouth on May 20 without being in possession of a permit.
After hearing argument by counsel (Mr. G. Joseph) and the Collector of Customs (Mr. R. J. Gray), the Magistrate remanded the case for a month. An indication was given by counsel that further efforts would be made in the meantime to obtain a permit for the defendant to remain in the country. ■ .
