MORE LEGISLATION

FINANCIAL BILLS

END OF THE SESSION

NOT LIKELY THIS WEEK

Consideration of the remaining programme of legislation' occupied the attention of a caucus of Government members this morning. It was dec:.: .. that this afternoon's sitting of, the House of Representatives would be devoted to two local Bills which remain on the Order Paper, and that the Public Works Estimates be discussed this evening. A statement regarding the remainder of the sessional programme is expected to be made by the Acting Prime Minister (the Hon. P. Fraser) this afternoon. It is gathered that there are still quite a number of minor Bills to be introduced, in addition to which financial provisio: will have to be made to deal with a situation which was not contemplated when the Budget was presented. In view of the fact that the subject of finance is likely to provoke some controversy in the House, it is not thought that the session will end this week, as was at first expected.
