NO ELECTION WANTED

CHRISTCHURCH TRAMWAY

BOARD

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.

It is now unlikely that the election for the Christchurch Tramway Board set down for November next will be held. Both parties concerned, the Labour Party and the Citizens' Association, have agreed that it would not be in the public interest to hold an election during a time of crisis. As the parties are agreed it now remains for the Government to take the necessary legislative action to postpone the election and extend the period of membership of the present personnel of the board.

The present members of the board are Messrs. J. Mathison (chairman), the Hon. J. K. Archer, R. M. MacFarlane, H. E. Denton, G. Manning, E. Parlane, J. Barr, W." J. Wallter and A. A. McLachlan. With the exception of Messrs. Walter (Independent) and McLachlan (Citizens' Association) all belong to the Labour Party. Owing to his appointment as President of the Assessment Court Mr. McLachlan will not retain his seat on the board, and in accordance with the agreement reached by the two parties he will be replaced by a member of the Citizens' Association.
