EX-SOLDIERS' REUNION
The clouds of war over Europe weie reflected in the speeches at the aiinual reunion of members of the Samoan Expeditionary Force, which was held on Saturday.night Reference, was made to the fact that on the twentyfifth anniversary of the forces landing in Samoa the world appeared on thi verge .of another war, A record number of members, 150, was present. Mr. R. Mason presided. Such a large attendance, said the chlirman, shfwed that^the old spirit was still with them. When the sound nf war came there was no doubt max the men would rally round as they ha|he° following toasts were honoured: - "Samoan , Expeditionary Force,"' proposed.- by -Mr. H. Jowett and responded to by Colonel A. Cowles; "The Territorials," proppsed by Mr J. H. McKay and replied to by Sergeant N. Carter -(sth Wellmgton Regiment); and "The Nursinp Sisters, proposed by Mr. G. H. Wein and replied to by Sister L. Brandon As a mark of respect to. the late Lieutenant-Colonel' ■ Hareourt^rner, who was in charge of the sth Wellington Regiment- when it went to" Samoa, those present stood in silence for a few moments.
