Friday's closing prices for the following raw materials were nominally as follows, those for August 25 being shown in parentheses:— Cotton. —Liverpool quotation, good American middling, spot 5.40 d a lb (5.52 d); October delivery, • 4.99 d a lb (4.97 d). Rubber.—Para, not quoted (8 5-8 d): plantation smoked ribbed sheet, not quoted (7 5-8 d). Jute.-—September-October shipment, not quoted. Linseed Oil.—Not quoted (£29 10s a ton). Turpentine.—-50s a cwt (41s). SOUTHERN DAIRY PAYOUTS. A surplus of £32,585 is shown in the accounts for the Tai Tapu Co-opera-tive Dairy Company, Ltd., Canterbury, for the year ended July 31, 1939. The directors recommend a final payment of 24d per lb on the butterfat supplied, making a total payment for the finest grade for the year of Is 4Jd per lb. The final payment absorbs £29.879. The directors also recomrriend a dividend, at the rate of 6 per cent, per annum, absorbing £687. and a transfer to plant and buildings replacement reserve of £2019. "Unsold butter on hand at the balance date consisted of 90,4911b, and was valued for stocktaking at Is 3.6 d. The expense ratio of 2.46 d per lb butterfat is an increase of .13d per lb butterfat over the pre-vious-year's .figures; this, in view, ot' rising costs and a decrease in output of 65 tbns, reflects credit on the1 efficiency of the organisation: The average grade for the year of 94.01 is an improvement, and brings the. average grade of our produce into the super-finest class; The Canterbury Central Co-opera-tivS Dairy Company, Ltd.. announces a further payment of 2 0: per •lb on all butterfat supplied during the company's year ended July 31, 1039, to be . included with the payment for August butterfat. , ,;
