The Polish Press for the first time admits the possibility of war, and describes the German attitude as imperialism with the mask off. It. declares that Britain will not agree to a new Munich, and that Germany has lost the war of nerves.

A spokesman, commenting on the atrocity propaganda, declared: "We are powerless against this sort of thing, and must protest against the lack of information or misinformation of German Ministers.

| The opposition newspaper "Wieczor, Warszawski" publishes a circumstantial report from Danzig that twenty Storm Troopers who were appealing from a lorry to the people to keep calm were fired on by German citizens, three being killed in an exchange of shots. Another report says that young Brown Shirts distributed circulars stating: "Germans, historic events will occur tomorrow. Keep a calm and firm spirit," adding that they would not occur only in Danzig, but elsewhere, with Italy simultaneously moving against Yugoslavia.

The Polish Foreign Office has presented all foreign correspondents with gas masks, commenting: "You may need them."

Three incidents which are regarded as aggravating the situation are <1) the arrest of two Polish Customs officers in Danzig; (2) the threatening position Of the cruiser Sehleswig Holstein, which is anchored at Danzig; (3) a reported mobilisation in East Prussia.

There have been 34 frontier violations by German planes during the last 24 hours, states a message from Warsaw.

A German cavalry sergeant, who lost his way on patrol duty and wen' four miles into Polish territory, was shot dead near Dzialdszyn. Poles and Germans exchanged shots at Rydnik, Silesia. A number were injured on both sides.

The Danzig representative of the Associated Press of Great Britain says that intensive military activity prevailed in the city throughout the night. Barricades have been thrown up on the western frontier. Patrols of soldiers tramped through the streets to the frontier.

Warsaw reports that the Nazi secret police are carrying out lightning raids in Prague and are reported to have arrested at least 10,000 Czechs.
