NEW CONTROL BOARD

SOME PERSONAL NOTES

As announced recently, a Tilm Industry Board of Control has keen established to act as a tribunal and advisory body in respect to difficulties and disputes and the welfare of the industry in New Zealand. ,

The following notes on the members of the new board have been supplied:-—

Mr. W. F. Stilwell, S.M., in ids capacity as chairman of the Film Advisory Committee appointed by the Minister of Internal Affairs under the Cinematograph Films Act, 1928, has gained a very wide knowleqlge of; the film industry*. .......

Mr. S. H. Craig, general manager of Paramount Film Service (N.Z.), "Ltd., is the president of the Film Exchanges Association of New 'Zealand .{lncoi> porated). He has had a very wide experience in the film industry and-has represented the association-on the Film Advisory Committee and several subcommittees set up to. deal, with various phases of the industry. '.'.-"

Mr. W. A. Hislop, general manager of Universal Pictures Proprietary* Ltd., has held office as president of the Film Exchanges Association, and is at present vice-president. He has represented the association oh several subcommittees.

Mr. W. W. Duff, general manager of R.K.O. Radio Pictures (A'asia) Pty, Ltd., has held office as president of the Film Exchanges Association and has represented the association on several sub-committees. ■

Mr. R. M. Stewart has been secretary of the Film Exchange Association for the past fifteen years. He represented the association on the Film Advisory Committee which, under. th« chairmanship of the late Mr. Justice Page, drew up the Standard Film Hit* ing Agreement now in use in New Zea» land, and on the Film Advisory Committee tinder the chairmanship of Mr. W. F. Stilwell. He now represents tht association on the Mutual Film Insurance Board and the Cinematograph Operators Licensing Board. Mr. J. H. Mason, managing director of J. C. Williamson Picture Corporation Limited and Theatre Management Limited, is a member of the executive of the New Zealand Motion Picture Exhibitors' Association (Inc.), and on the Board of Internal Control he will also represent Fullers Theatre Corporation Limited, John Fuller and Sons Limited, New Zealand Theatres Limited, and subsidiary and associated companies which betAveen them control 110 theatres in the Dominion.

Mr. M. J, Moodabe, governing director of Amalgamated Theatres, Ltd.. is a member of the executive of the Film Exhibitors' Association (Inc.), Auckland. He is the principal of a company which has made remarkable progress during the past few years and which now controls over fifty theatres in the Dominion.

Mr. H. W. Thompson, managing director of Thompson-Payne Pictures Company, Ltd., Napier, has had a very long experience as a motion picture exhibitor in various parts of the Dominion. He now controls the. "Gaiety Theatre, Napier. By a postal ballot of independent exhibitors held recently, he was elected as one of the two representatives of the independnt exhibitors of the board.

Mr. J. Robertson, M.P;, has been secretary of the New Zealand Motion Picture* Exhibitors' Association since the association Avas formed thirteen years ago. He represented his association on the Film Advisory Committee under the chairmanship of . th« late Mr. Justice Page, and on the advisory committee under the chairmanship of Mr. W. F. Stilwell. He.also represented his association at a conference of Australian and New Zealand exhibitors at Sydney some months ago. He represents his association on several sub-committees dealing with performing rights, etc., and acts as secretary of the Mutual Film Insurance Board, and editor of the exhibitors' "Bulletin." He Avas elected one of the two representatives of the independent exhibitors on the board.
