CENTENNIAL EVENTS

OVERSEAS INTEREST

ANNOUNCEMENT OF PROGRAMMES

The chairman of the National Centennial Council, the Hon. W. E. Parry, Minister of Internal Affairs, at its last meeting, stressed the importance of the quickest possible finalising of all programmes for approved Centennial celebrations. "The urgency of the matter," he said, "is exemplified by several requests received by the Government from the High Comrhissioner in London for information both as to the dates and nature of the celebrations. These requests have been forwarded in response to numerous inquiries made by shipping companies and others in the United Kingdom. It ! will be obvious to the council that, unless we can circulate the official programme abroad well before the | close of this year, the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition and the national celebrations will be the only Centennial attractions advertised outside the Dominion. This council will agree that due publicity to the official programme is a matter of importance to the Centennial Exhibition itself, as it is obvious that that great undertaking will be even more attractive to overseas visitors if they can be assured that after their visit to the Exhibition they will be able to attend other important celebrations associated with the observance of the Centennial.
