TRANSPORT SERVICES

MEMBERSHIP ISSUE

INFORMATION SOUGHT

Clarification of the policy of the No. 2 Licensing Authority (Mr. P. Skoglund) in dealing with applications, was sought by Mr. C. L. Bishop, representing the Eastbourne Borough Council, when Mr. Skoglund dealt with transport licences today. .Mr. Bishop said it had been reported that Mr. Skoglund had stated that he would not deal with applications unless the applicant was represented by, or was a member of a national organisation, and the inference was that the only national organisation in operation was the Transport Road Alliance. Mr. Skoglund said he had never made a statement from which that inference could be taken. ' Mr. Bishop pointed out that the New Zealand Motor Omnibus Proprietors' Association had been in operation for some time. He read a letter from the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Road Transport Alliance j to a member of the Omnibus Proprietors' Association in which it was stated that the authorities had expressed the view that all operators should be members of a branch of the New Zealand Road Transport Alliance, and setting out particulars of .membership. Mr. Skoglund said that the early part of the letter relative to membership of an association was correct. Mr. Bishop: But not necessarily the. Road Transport Alliance. The letter, he said, had been sent to one of his members who had had nothing to do with the alliance.
