BUDGET DEBATE RESUMED
MAY CONCLUDE TONIGHT
VARIED DISCUSSION YESTERDAY
The House of Representatives rose at 10.28 last night with the expectation that the debate on the Budget would conclude tonight. Five more speakers during the day brought the total of members who had contributed to the debate to 61, of whom 36 were Government members. 23 Opposition, and 2 Independents. Taxation, the position of the farmers, immigration, defence, and Public Works expenditure were the main topics of discussion, but in general the debate ran on routine lines and produced little of lively interest.
